Weaver: Yohana (32 years old)
Motif: "Tiang bekurung"
100% cotton

Yohana is a member of the Women’s Weaving Cooperative we partner with in West Borneo. Yohana's vibrant ikat throw in deep coral is handmade, hand dyed and one-of-a-kind. Your throw will be accompanied by a Weaver Profile, which will include a little information about the artisan and the motif used in her piece.

THE MOTIF
Tiang bekurung are the main poles used to hold up the traditional longhouses built by Dayak weaving communities in West Borneo. When a longhouse is being constructed, the community often carries out a ceremony to bless the house once the first tiang kurung is erected.

CARING FOR YOUR IKAT
Whilst ikat can be spot cleaned with warm soapy water, we recommend you dry clean your product when necessary. Please also ensure it is not exposed to direct sunlight for long periods as this will cause the colours to fade.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE
The People’s Fabric source ikat from various villages in West Borneo – they are made by a variety of different people who use a variety of different dyes so each piece is unique. The complex process of making ikat requires high levels of skill, as each is handmade and hand dyed. Because of this, there may occasionally be slight imperfections in the artwork – whilst these are minor, we believe this simply contributes to each ikats story.
