Product description

Hand crafted gumnut and quandong necklaces. Length varies between 45-50cm, depending on the level of detail painted onto each bead. Quandong trees are native to Central Australia, and produce fruits which each contain a large nut. The Quandong fruit is edible and highly nutritious, with twice the vitamin c of an orange. Gumnut and quandong nuts are harvested by the artists themselves from Eucalyptus and Quandong trees, then painted with beautiful, intricate designs.

Tjanpi Desert Weavers is a dynamic social enterprise established in 1995 by the Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Women's Council. Tjanpi was created to enable women living in remote communities across the Central and Western Deserts to earn their own income from fibre art. Today the Tjanpi enterprise is more than just fibre art and income; it is firmly embedded in contemporary Central and Western Desert culture as a movement that celebrates life, creativity, culture and country.
